General surgeries and clinics: There are morning and afternoon surgeries held by the doctors for general medical problems. Not all doctors are available on every day.
Urgent problems: We will always see patients who feel that their problem is urgent on the same day, or suggest a alternative course of action if we feel this is more appropriate.
Women’s health / family planning: Prescribing of the contraceptive pill is usually done in routine surgery hours, as is advice regarding all types of contraception, by appointment. We fit intrauterine contraceptive devices (coils) and fit and remove Implanon. Cervical smears are generally carried out buy our practice nurses, who can also carry out pill checks and offer advice on Hormone Replacement Therapy and breast checks. One of our Practice Nurses also works in the local Family Planning Clinic and has extensive experience in this area
Children’s clinics: We run aclinics which is always attended by a health visitor. For further information contact the Health Visitors on (01205) 366464.
Wednesday 0900 – 1200 is a drop-in clinic for advice on vaccinations and management of the under-5s. A doctor is present to see children at the health visitor’s request, to do developmental assessments and to monitor vaccinations given by the Practice Nurses.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING ILL CHILDREN TO THIS CLINICS..
Long term health conditions: Most patients who suffer from diabetes are offered a joint appointment with the doctor and nurse at regular intervals (usually every 6 months). The asthma clinic is for the regular review of asthmatics concentrating on education about asthma and the proper use of asthma inhalers and medicines. We also provide regular follow up for patients with other long term health problems such as chronic airways disease, chronic heart disease, epilepsy and mental health problems.
Antenatal clinics: These clinics are carried out by our visiting community midwife, who will arrange for you to see a doctor if she feels it is necessary.
Minor surgery: We carry out in or surgery on the premises. These are carried out by one of the GPs who is experienced and qualified in this area. If we do not feel we can carry out the procedure for you we will arrange for a referral to someone else. A prior consultation is required to assess suitability and you should make an appointment in a normal surgery for this. We can also carry out various injections and cryotherapy (freezing skin lesions), often during normal surgery.
Home visits: We will visit patients at home if they are too ill to get to the surgery. The doctors leave the surgery to do their rounds soon after finishing morning surgery so, whenever possible please make your requests for a visit before 10 am. It is helpful if you are able to give brief details of the patient's symptoms and the name of their doctor to enable the doctors to decide the priority of visits.
Please be aware that if you call to request a visit during the afternoon, the doctor may not get to you until the evening and it may not be possible for you to collect any prescription until the following day.
